Gummy / Gummi

No matter how you spell it, with a "y" or with an "i", gummy candies are one of the best sensations to hit the candy industry. They've been around in various forms for many years. You may think that Haribo's Gummy Bears started it all and you are right. But what may surprise you is that these gummy bears were around far longer than the fad that got its start in the 1980s.

Hans Riegel, the founder of Haribo, first developed gummy candy in Germany in the early 1900s using pectin and starch. Haribo's first gummi bears came out in the 1920s but didn't take off for another 60 years. Haribo finally started manufacturing their gummy bears in the U.S. in the 1980s and from there, the gummy bear craze took hold.

Today, gummy candy comes in every form imaginable from the cute little bears we all love and can't resist to the strange and absurd. You'll find gummi bears, worms, dinosaurs, rats, snakes, gummy fruit, and hamburgers and hot dogs.

The reason for so many shapes lies in both its popularity as well as the nature of the candy itself. It's made of gelatin, flavors, sweeteners, and colorings. The gelatin allows it to be molded into just about any shape possible. You name it, chances are there's a gummy version available somewhere in the world.

Sugar Stand has a huge variety of gummy candy to choose from. Browse through our yummy gummy pages and find an old favorite or try something new. Whether you want the traditional Haribo Gummy Bear or something wiggly and jiggly like Gummy Worms, you'll find a huge selection.

Gummy candy isn't just for snacking on. You can use gummy candies in a variety of baking projects. They're adorable on cupcakes and as decorations for gingerbread houses, cookies, and cakes. Use your imagination and enjoy gummy candy in numerous ways.

Do you like fish? We have gummy versions! Try our Gummy fish and gummy sharks.

And if the fun shapes aren't enough to try something gummy, consider the flavors. We have gummys in traditional fruity flavors but we also have the extreme gummys you're sure to love. Cinnamon gummys are hot and spicy and sour gummys will give you that mouth-puckering extreme sour punch you like so much.

Gummy candies are here to stay. From their early beginnings in Germany to the fad that started (and hasn't stopped) in the eighties, the world loves gummies!
