If you thought you can only get cotton candy at the circus, carnivals, or fairs, think again! Sugar Stand carries all kinds of prepackaged cotton candy-flavored treats as well as the real thing! Now you can enjoy the lore of the carnival midway anytime when you pop in a piece of these melt-in-your-mouth treats.

There's nothing quite like cotton candy, it's light and fluffy and dissolves the minute it hits your tongue. Who dreamed this amazing treat up? Four men have all claimed to be the inventor at one time or another but the true inventor is not known for sure. These men are William Morrison, Thomas Patton, Josef Delarose Lascaux, and John C. Wharton.

The men listed on the 1899 patent for the cotton candy machine are Morrison and Wharton. This first machine used centrifugal force to spin sugar through tiny holes and melt it into the fluffy concoction we love so much. They introduced their treat in 1904 at the St. Louis World's Fair.

In 1900, Patton received a different patent, not for a machine but rather for his process used to make cotton candy. His technique incorporated a rotating gas-fired plate and a fork. Sugar caramelized and was formed into threads. Patton soon introduced this treat to Ringling Brothers Circus where it became an immediate hit.

Apparently the fourth man, a dentist from Louisiana, Josef Delarose Lascaux, introduced his version at his dental practice though he never patented or trademarked it.

The early machines and processes where fairly unreliable and tended to break down frequently. A revolutionary model with a spring base was introduced in 1949 by Gold Medal Products and helped launch pre packaged cotton candy to mainstream popularity.

But really, what is this amazing confection? These machines take pure sugar and spin them into a fluffy delight. They work by melting the sugar and then spinning the liquid sugar through tiny holes. As the sugar spins through the holes it cools, forming threads which soon solidify again. These threads are collected on a stick and presented to the waiting customer. Simple, yet complicated, this treat is hard to beat!

But now, you don't need to search down a man, or woman, with a machine to satisfy your craving for cotton candy. We have packs of the fluffy stuff for your everyday enjoyment. We also stock numerous flavored treats with the melt in your mouth flavor of cotton candy!
