Chocolate Toffee Treats

Chocolate has long been a favorite ingredient in many recipes, and this recipe adds the great flavor of toffee to this old favorite.

Ingredient List

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup of coffee liqueur
  • 2 cups of fudge sauce (use the recipe that follows or use a jar of prepared fudge sauce)
  • 3 broken chocolate covered toffee candy bars
  • 1-1/2 cups of whipped heavy cream, sweetened with 1/3 cup of sugar

Preparation Steps

The first step is to prepare the cake using the directions on the package. Use a 9” x 13” cake pan to make the cake, and allow the cake to cool thoroughly before proceeding to the next step.

After the cake has cooled, prick the entire top of the cake surface using a fork, then pour the coffee liqueur over the top of the cake, allowing it to soak in completely. Wrap the cake with the liqueur added with plastic wrap and keep it in the refrigerator for at least three hours. After the cake has had time to cool in the fridge, it should be sliced into pieces one inch thick.

The next step is to line the bottom of a large glass bowl with a single layer of the cake. Pour one quarter of the fudge sauce over the top of the cake, top with one quarter of the candy bar pieces and then 1/3 of the whipped cream. Repeat this layering twice more, ending with a layer of fudge sauce and candy pieces. Refrigerate the cake until you are ready to serve it.

Ingredient List – Hot Fudge Sauce

  • 1 four ounce bar of dark chocolate
  • 1/2 ounce of unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 3 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1-2/3 cups of evaporated milk
  • 1-1/4 teaspoons of vanilla extract

Preparation Steps

Begin making the sauce by melting the dark chocolate and mixing it with the butter using a saucepan over very low heat. Next, stir in the powdered sugar, and alternate it with the evaporated milk. Blend the mixture well, stirring constantly and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Continue to simmer until the mixture has thickened and become creamy. Typical cooking time will be about eight minutes. Stir in the vanilla, mix well, and add the mixture to the cake as specified in the recipe above. The whole family is sure to love this moist and delicious cake.
